For a while now I wanted a space where I could share free useful resources for creative entrepreneurs and bloggers - i.e you- that I have designed and today I’m glad to say that I have started a library! Yaaay! Hello creatives! Oh my, how I missed blogging, but when life gets busy, it gets busy! I just got the time to properly sit down and write about what a wonder 2015 was. Scary as it is, I’m about to be transparent with you. Read More
We all know Mailchimp is great for email marketing and even more awesome when you’re just starting out. However, simple as the interface is, it can be challenging to actually figure out how to do something, especially if it’s redirecting mailing list subscribers to your landing page after they sign up and also being able to give them a sign-up freebie through a download link.
When we first start our business, it’s easy to want to skimp on investing in good design because we find it to be expensive and not a worthwhile investment. But as a matter of fact, investing in a good brand identity design (and even a good brand strategy) could be one of the best initial investments you make in your business. Why? Well, grab those pens and notebooks because I’m going to explain a little something to you about how good branding can benefit you in the long run. Read More
There’s new brand identity and website design in town, yay! When I saw that a friend of mine, Lekgolo, had started her own freelance PR company and saw that she didn’t have a brand identity yet, I offered her my services and luckily she jumped at the chance and was enthusiastic about it. Hers may just be my favourite brand identity design yet. Read More
When you’ve put a lot of time and money into our business and having to go months living frugally and being stressed about how you’re going to get through the next month because your business isn’t doing as well as you hoped it would, it can be so, so easy to get discouraged and throw in the towel.
I’ve been there... Read More
I’m always making little changes on my website to improve the overall user experience and to also generate leads and conversions in order to build up my mailing list so I could actually have several people to share useful secrets and freebies with and to rant. Read More
I don’t know exactly when I got into watching TED talks but I know why; I had these spaces of time where I had nothing to do and I could not fill my sketchbook with doodles that were typical of a slow work’s day. But because I didn’t want to waste time, I wanted to spend the time doing something productive, or at least something that would improve my life in some way and boy, was my life improved. Read More
It's exciting times here at Allebasi Design! You might have noticed that I’ve been quiet on the blogging front lately and it’s all within good reason! I took some time off to reflect on what I wanted my blog to be. I went through my old posts (and I set up an archives page) and I noticed that my voice wasn’t coming through in the posts. Read More
I used to believe that being busy was something to strive for and the busier you are the better. I thought being busy meant having a lot of things done and when people would ask me what I’m doing, I’d reply with “I am very busy right now” or tell them that I am swamped with work. I thought that being swamped with work is something to be proud of. Boy, was I wrong. Read More
When I’m procrastinating doing things I really should do (like writing blog posts!) I can be found online on the internet, just casually scrolling and surfing. On one such occasion I wanted to link with other creative entrepreneurs in SA and it was such a struggle. I asked around on Twitter and even asked on Reddit. There were a handful who actually replied to me and I’m so keen to find more about them and support their ventures. After enquiring on Facebook, I came across a few people who wanted to start their own businesses but do not know how or where to get support. Because of this and knowing that I can be able to help using what I’ve learnt on my journey, I had an idea to host an Entrepreneur Chat on Twitter where fellow entrepreneurs and aspiring entrepreneurs would come together to share their stories, tips and advice. I have a problem with focusing on one thing at a time. My mind is so busy and I get so many ideas and think about things I need to do, several times a day. The kicker is that I never get round to doing any of them. I am always planning to get some things done that I’ve been meaning to do for so long but didn’t because I never had the time. Read More
People (including me) are always interested in the process of how something is created and what goes on behind-the-scenes. I think it offers a look into how much work goes into the process; the curtain is pulled back and you see that it’s not all it seems on the surface. In design, designers may offer a behind-the-scenes to show how much work can go into creating something simple as a way to demonstrate that design actually, isn’t easy and something that any five year old can do. I love to see other artists’ process because there is always something to learn from them. You can learn anything from the resources they use in their work or their methods. Today I’m going to share my own process and I hope that you can get something out of it. Read More
Whoo hoo! I am so happy to be back blogging. The reason for my long absence is because I was moving. I am now based in Johannesburg which is great because I’m near a lot of networks and I’ll actually be able to meet with clients face-to-face and attend a lot of events as well! I am excited, I’ll be working in-house for a couple of months and from there, we’ll see where Allebasi will be based. :)
Since my last get-to-know Isabella (me!) post, I’ve seen how popular it was and I decided to come back with another post. This time I am sharing ten facts about me. Here we go: Read More
The very first website Allebasi Design had didn’t have a blog. It was more of a portfolio site than a fully-fledged website and I saw that it really didn’t show what I’m about or carry the brand I want to depict forth. When I migrated to Squarespace, I decided to create a blog for the new website so I could show the behind the scenes into my work and share projects I was working on or tips for doing what I do. It was one of the best decisions I have ever made regarding my website, especially as an entrepreneur. Today I’m going to share reasons why small business owners should blog: Read More
When I first started Allebasi I knew that it would be challenging and it was. Since then, I have faced many challenges that I was able to overcome and today there are still some I am still trying to overcome. I don’t mind challenges; I welcome them. They make you improvise (one of my strengths is improvisation) and they help you ascend limits. Today I’m sharing four of my biggest challenges as a business owner. Read More
Today I’m sharing a few facts about me so you can get to know me better. I figured that if I’m going to get to know you better, then I’ve got to reveal parts of myself first so I’m sharing ten of my favourites! Read More
have been tweeting about Bloglovin lately and in the past I have asked some bloggers to link me to their Bloglovin’ accounts and gotten, “what is that?” as replies. Since it’s becoming more and more popular and it is a great tool for business owners, bloggers and readers, I decided to outline a couple of advantages of using Bloglovin’ with the hope that more bloggers and blog readers would make use of it, especially in South Africa where most of my target audience is.
